OUR CHALLENGE
When renowned architect Øyvind Nystad of Reactor presented a groundbreaking concept for a 50 meter long sculpture with integrated LED lights, Atrium Ljungberg was immediately excited about the potential to transform the large space above the escalators in Sickla Köpkvarter. To realize this ambitious vision, Atrium Ljungberg, in collaboration with investment company JFP, turned to Mood Nordic as its trusted partner.
The challenge for Mood Nordic was to coordinate the complex fabrication and installation of this massive work of art, which required careful communication with the manufacturing facilities to ensure the detailed design and safety of the sculpture. The installation needed to be safe and precise, while delivering the visual effect Øyvind envisioned and meeting Atrium Ljungberg's high standards for the shopping center.
OUR APPROACH
To meet the challenge of realizing Øyvind's complex sculpture design and meet Atrium's high delivery standards, Mood Nordic began by carefully identifying a fabricator who could handle the scale and detail of the project. The team contacted specialized facilities with experience in large-scale, highly detailed art installations to ensure the sculpture would match the visual impact shown in the rendering.
Once the fabrication partner was chosen, Mood Nordic was responsible for the entire fabrication process, ensuring that every detail met the architect's specifications and the ambitious vision of the project. The final step was the delicate and precise installation of the sculpture in the large space above the escalators in Sickla Köpkvarter. To minimize disruption, the installation was carried out at night when the mall was closed. Mood Nordic coordinated the secure suspension of the sculpture from the ceiling using steel cables, ensuring both safety and stability.
THE OUTCOME
Mood Nordic succeeded in realizing the project and delivered a sculpture that exactly matched Øyvind Nystad's detailed design and met Atrium Ljungberg's high standards. The installation, which included both the artwork and the necessary electrical and security measures, was completed over 16 nights in the Sickla Shopping Center. This careful planning ensured minimal disruption to the shopping center's daily operations.
The result is a breathtaking eye-catcher that has transformed the space above the escalators into a fascinating spectacle. Visitors are often seen admiring the sculpture, taking photographs and enjoying the improved shopping environment. The shopping center has become a prominent city attraction and increased the flow of visitors to nearby shops. Atrium Ljungberg is very pleased with the result and has achieved its goal of creating a striking and engaging centerpiece that enhances the overall experience in Sickla.
